30 Small Acts of Kindness You Can Do From Home
In my blog editorial calendar, today was supposed to be sharing the books I read in April.
But honestly, this idea came to mind and I wanted to share it as quickly as possible.
I think we all need a little joy as we go into our second full month (3rd if you include March) of being in quarantine/social distancing.
If you’re like me, you miss your friends. Zoom just doesn’t cut it. It’s good, but it’s not the same.
I miss community and being around people and talking over coffee or simply walking around Marshall’s. (For real, I miss Marshall’s.)
However, there are still many things you can do to show acts of kindness right from home! I can’t take credit for all of these ideas, though. Thank you to everyone who replied to my Instagram Story sharing your ideas! I love that we created this together, even from afar :)
Here are 30 small acts of kindness you can do from home.
Disclaimer: Some of these do require you spending money, but I tried to think of both free and inexpensive options to give you some ideas!
Write a snail mail letter to someone on your mind.
Embroider something and send it via mail. (My SIL Alice recently sent me one and it made my day!)
Send a meal through delivery.
Make masks for frontline workers, family and friends.
Purchase an e-gift card and send (ideas: GrubHub, DoorDash, Uber Eats, Amazon).
Order a gift from Etsy or Amazon and have it sent to their house.
Actually call them on the PHONE. (Texting + Zoom is great but phone calls go above and beyond.)
Encourage a Class of 2020 Senior through a piece of mail, a small gift, or other token of appreciation and support.
Order something off of a wedding or baby registry.
Pay a bill online for a friend who’s struggling or was furloughed.
Pick up trash in the neighborhood (but keep social distancing in mind, of course).
Leave an encouraging comment on a blogger’s blog or a friend’s Facebook page.
Pray for someone.
Do a household chore that usually is your spouse or child’s responsibility.
Leave packaged snacks and water bottles on your porch for delivery drivers.
Put a gift in your mailbox for your mailman (gift card, baked goods, etc).
DoorDash or Grubhub a cup of coffee or treat to a friend.
Leave encouraging notes in your neighbors’ mailboxes.
Text someone you haven’t talked to for a while.
Send a meal to nurses and frontline workers.
Contribute to someone’s GoFundMe or other donation platform. (Here is a non-profit that’s close to my heart.)
Encourage your pastor and church leaders.
Call a parent or grandparent. (Or both!)
Include a generous tip whenever possible.
Smile and wave to your neighbor (a little friendliness goes a long way).
Order photos and send them to friends to remind them of the good times.
Venmo a friend, just because.
Send a “pass-it-on” card to a friend. (Bloom Planners has so many cute options!)
Support local/smaller businesses by paying it forward to those who don’t have jobs right now.
Create a playlist and share the link with friends.
