14 Things You Can Do Now to Prep for the Holidays

Blogmas day 2

You know I love a good list, and today I’m sharing one that is saving my life this year. With the Christmas season upon us, plus prepping for a new baby who should arrive any day now, there’s a lot to do and a lot on my mind. Any task that will help Future Keri out, I’m going to do it! Whether you’re anticipating a new life stage or simply want to stay organized and sane this holiday season, here are 14 things you can do now to prep for the holidays.

  1. Create lists for everything (e.g., groceries, chores, people to call, reservations to make)

  2. Create a gift-tracking and budgeting spreadsheet

  3. Buy and wrap gifts as you go

  4. Purchase, wrap, and keep a few generic gifts in your car for when someone unexpectedly gives you a gift! Ideas could include your favorite book, a mug & hot chocolate mix, a candle, or a Starbucks gift card.

  5. Make cookie dough and freeze it for future use

  6. Stock up on ingredients for quick and easy meals to keep on hand

  7. Declutter common spaces (e.g., junk drawer, bathroom closet, fridge, and freezer)

  8. Write down all the important dates and deadlines on the calendar

  9. Purchase Christmas cards that offer already-addressed envelopes

  10. Buy stamps and thank you notes for gifts you will receive

  11. Schedule time for rest and self-care (like sitting by the tree with your favorite book or getting a mani/pedi)

  12. Choose playlists for future gatherings

  13. Time block backward for busy days (e.g., If people are arriving at your house at 4 pm for Christmas Eve dinner, schedule backward to know when to start different tasks)

  14. Stay hydrated and take your vitamins (now is not the time to get sick!)
