Blogmas Day 20

Before we head into Christmas week, I wanted to share one more book post. Sorry, can’t help myself.

I got really into reading this year, more so than previous years, and I truly think Goodreads and my Bookstagram account/community were main factors that motivated me to keep going. I found myself wanting to escape to other “worlds,” especially in the thick of quarantine. It was therapeutic to get lost in a story instead of scrolling mindlessly on my phone.

I also got really into audiobooks, thanks to the Libby app, so that also was beneficial when I wanted to do mindless chores and listen to something educational at the same time.

Of the 60+ books I read this year, however, there are clear favorites. I won’t go into tons of detail but they were incredible reads. If you choose to read any of the books I read in 2020, start with these!!

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah (5+/5 stars)

I read this in January and flew through it. It’s a book about friendship and one of the only books that has ever made me cry.

Good Morning, Good Life by Amy Landino (5/5/ stars)

If you’re looking for motivation on how to start, or hone, your morning routine, this is it. Also its cover is aesthetically pleasing which is a bonus.

The Great Alone by Kristin Hannah (5/5 stars)

Another amazing read by Kristin Hannah. It’s set in Alaska which is pretty unique since I don’t know too much about that state!

To Hell With the Hustle by Jefferson Bethke (5/5 stars)

Although it wasn’t super relevant this year, I really enjoyed Jefferson Bethke’s take on hustle culture and the “need” to always be on the go. It was a good wakeup call that you don’t always need to be rushing around and it’s necessary to take breaks.

Plain Truth by Jodi Picoult (4.5/5 stars)

I’m a huge fan of Jodi Picoult and loved this story set in Amish country. I love a great twist in the story and Jodi Picoult is the queen of plot twists you never see coming.

Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens (4.5/5 stars)

This story lived up to its hype. The writing style was unique so it took me a few chapters to get used to it but the author’s attention to detail, especially when it comes to all things nature, was impressive.

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng (4.5/5 stars)

I still have yet to see the TV series on Hulu but this book was so good. I finished it within a few days because I couldn’t stop reading it!

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid (5+/5 stars)

I LOVED THIS BOOK. It was one of my absolute favorites of 2020 and maybe even ever. It’s written in such a unique format and follows the story of a rock band and how they came together and got famous. Disclaimer: There is some language and mentions of drugs and alcohol so it’s for a mature audience.

Followers by Megan Angelo (4.5/5 stars)

Someone I know recommended and gifted me this book because he knows the author. I was instantly drawn to the beautiful cover and it was equally fascinating. The story takes place in the present and in the future (two main characters from two timeframes) and gives a sneak peek into what it’d be like if technology played an even bigger role in our lives.

New Morning Mercies by Paul David Tripp (5+/5 stars)

I’ve been reading this devotional all year long and have enjoyed it so much. I plan to read it in 2021 and maybe even 2022 and so on. Each devotion is only one page so it’s easy to fit in your day but the content is so rich that it keeps you wanting more. Highly recommend, especially if you’re looking for a new devotional.
