For He Alone is Worthy

Blogmas Day 24

All month long, but especially this week, I have had two songs stuck in my head.

Yesterday I listened to the songs on repeat and focused on the lyrics. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that these two songs, O Come, O Come Emmanuel and O Come All Ye Faithful, are the ones I can’t shake.

It is easy to forget why we are celebrating Christmas in the first place. It’s not because of presents, Santa, traditions, and the familiarity of the season. It’s not to further encourage a me-centered culture or to celebrate if we’ve been “naughty” or “nice” all year.

It’s because our Savior, Jesus Christ, was born. The perfect Savior who came down to Earth, lived a perfect life, died on the cross for our sins, and was resurrected so that we may have eternal life.

It’s because the King of the world deserved a grand entrance and instead, entered this world in the lowliest of lowly places.

It’s because without Him, we have no Hope.

And so, we celebrate Christmas because He came. He arrived.

And so, we rejoice.

Because without Him, where is our hope? Where is our assurance?

Without Him, this world is dark and empty of Hope. It robs our joy and leaves us feeling empty.

But with Him, because of Him, we can know that this is not all there is.

And so, we rejoice.

Because we know that there is more. We long for Heaven, especially as we see the world for how lost it is. We long for our Savior to come again.

And so, we rejoice. Because He came, and is coming again.

And so, we rejoice, for He alone is worthy.

O Come All Ye Faithful

O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
O come, let us adore Him,
Christ the Lord.

For He alone is worthy,
For He alone is worthy,
For He alone is worthy,
Christ the Lord.

We'll give Him all the glory,
We'll give Him all the glory,
We'll give Him all the glory,
Christ the Lord.

O Come, O Come, Emmanuel

O come, O come, Emmanuel,
And ransom captive Israel,
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Rod of Jesse, free
Thine own from Satan's tyranny;
From depths of hell Thy people save,
And give them victory o'er the grave.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.

O come, Thou Dayspring, from on high,
And cheer us by Thy drawing nigh;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
And death's dark shadows put to flight.

Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel
Shall come to thee, O Israel.
