Our Front Yard Transformation
I realized the other day we’ve lived in this house for almost three years.
THREE YEARS.
I moved in the summer of 2018 and after we got married in October, Luke moved in too.
I absolutely love our little home and it has a special backstory too. That’s a story for another day, though.
With any new house, it doesn’t feel like yours at first. I had lived in my childhood home all my life until this house. It felt like a blank canvas. So many ways to decorate, integrate our styles, and make this house our own.
There were a lot of inside projects to tackle first so our outdoor space didn’t take priority. Two summers ago, I really wanted to get some outdoor furniture so we could relax and use our porch. It was a start and I love going out on our porch to read and drink coffee. Lucy loves it too!
Last summer we decided to complete some outdoor projects. Quarantine projects, if you will. We (Luke) built a backyard fence, a pergola, and a custom bench/planter for the backyard. We hung up little lights, bought a fire pit, and hosted our first outdoor movie night in the fall. Our backyard is definitely where we spend a lot of time because of Lucy and it’s slowly becoming a fun entertaining space. We have a host of other ideas up our sleeves (stay tuned!).
The front yard, though. It needed some love. Desperately.
Since we don’t spend tons of time in the front yard, we really didn’t think about it all that much. I always loved the look of blue front doors so that was something I couldn’t wait to do. When we (Luke) painted our front door blue last summer, it brightened up the entire look of our house. It’s crazy what a fresh coat of paint can do!
This past weekend, the weather was beautiful and it was a rare weekend where Luke and I both had off work and no concrete plans or deadlines to stick to. So we decided to up our curb appeal and tackle the front yard. We headed to Lowes, grabbed some essentials, and (Luke) planted flowers, hostas, and hydrangea.
While Luke and his dad handled the landscaping, I focused on the front porch. I wanted to brighten it up a bit more so here’s what we’ve done so far:
My mom made pillows for our seating area. Mom and I were at Michael’s and I immediately fell in love with the fabric when I found it. Mom’s a sewing queen and offered to make them for me. She did her magic and I LOVE how they turned out. Thank you, Mom!
We brought some of our plants outside. We have a lot of house plants (like, more than 50) so bringing some outside was a no-brainer. We’ve added more since taking the below photos.
I ordered a peony wreath from Amazon. It was inexpensive but had great reviews. I love the contrast between the pink wreath and blue door. So bright and cheerful!
Is it a crazy/drastic transformation? No, I wouldn’t say so. But does it bring life to our space and make it feel more welcoming? I’d say so.
To be honest, and a bit sentimental here, while the changes might not be earth-shattering, I love that it’s ours. We’re making this house our home, one project at a time, and that’s so special to me.
Here’s to more projects and making more memories!
