The Summer Playlist You Didn't Know You Needed
I don’t know about you, but I often get into a “music rut.” I find myself listening to the same songs over and over again. While at first songs can be inspiring, if you listen to them too often, they can lead to what I’m calling a “music rut.”
I’m a firm believer that everyone needs a Zach in their life. Zach is my middle brother and has incredible taste in music, in my opinion. I discovered this accidentally a few years ago when we were chatting and realized that we were both obsessed with a few of the same bands.
“Wait. You like them, too!?”
Isn’t that how all great friendships begin? A mutual love for something.
I’m close to all of my brothers, which I’m thankful for. And to be frank, they all have great tastes in music. But Zach is my go-to.
If he hears a new song that he thinks I’ll like, he texts me and says, “GO LISTEN TO THIS RIGHT NOW.” And I do. Because he’s almost always right (like 99.99% of the time. I love it). Fun fact: Zach has introduced me to most of my favorite songs, including the ones used in my one-second videos.
So when I told Zach I was creating a Summer 2021 playlist, he immediately gave me 10 songs to add to the list. And they were all great additions.
My Summer 2021 playlist is a little less than two hours long right now, which is plenty of time if you need to focus on work, clean, or drive to the beach. It includes some throwbacks and classic faves, including Michael Jackson and The Beach Boys. Certain songs on this list immediately take me back to specific times in my life (like dancing in Situ’s living room to “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys or seeing Grouplove perform live while in college).
Bonus #1: For ultimate summer relaxation vibes, I made the “playlist album cover” a photo I took at Renaissance Beach in Aruba.
Bonus #2: Laai is my friend’s band and they just released a new song TODAY called “Run Away” which is included in the playlist, along with a few of my other favorites of theirs.
Truly do you need any more reasons to check it out? I think not. So go listen to it on Spotify or check it out below! I’ll be adding more songs to it throughout the summer, as well.
Enjoy!
