Ever hear a tip or life hack and you immediately think, Ah! That is GENIUS.
Well, I’m not saying these tips are genius, per se, but I will say that they have made our lives a whole lot simpler.
I love learning about tips and tricks to save time and brain power. We’re all busy so why not share some adulting tips to help each other out? Feel free to add your favorites in the comments!
Here are 12 simple life hacks I’ve integrated into my life that just make sense.
{ONE} Re-write your grocery lists.
Well, first: write a grocery list throughout the week so you’re not wandering the aisles grabbing all the snacks because you’re hungry. Okay. Now that you are writing grocery lists, onto the actual life hack: Before heading to the grocery store, re-write your list in the order of the store. It helps you visualize your grocery shopping experience so you can refer to the list in order and save time while shopping. If you go to multiple stores, break up the list by location to make it a more efficient trip.
{TWO} Wash your fruits and veggies.
Speaking of grocery shopping, once you’re home, wash your fruits and veggies before putting them away. When you’re hungry later, it’s one less thing you’ll have to do before snacking.
{THREE} Sprinkle a few fabric softener beads in your vacuum.
A tablespoon or so of fabric softener beads will do. It makes your vacuum smell better while using it!
{FOUR} The daily delete.
At the end of every day, go through the photos and videos you took on your phone and delete miscellaneous screenshots, selfies, etc. that aren’t worth keeping. Shout out to The Lazy Genius for this tip!
{FIVE} Fit in movement whenever you can.
Brushing your teeth? Do some squats. Waiting for the microwave? March in place. We typically sit a lot throughout the day so any movement is better than nothing.
{SIX} Put your guest Wifi password somewhere you naturally gather with guests.
For us, the Wifi password hangs on our refrigerator in the kitchen along with our network name.
{SEVEN} Save where you can when online shopping.
Use Honey or another coupon finder extension when online shopping to know about price drops and discount codes before finalizing your purchases.
{EIGHT} Keep a Google sheet of addresses to reference throughout the year.
That way you can edit when people move or reference if you forget where they live and don’t want to ask (again). You can also add a column next to the people you send Christmas cards to so you don’t accidentally miss someone when the time comes!
{NINE} Take a look at your subscriptions.
The importance of budgeting is a whole other topic that I could write about for days, but one life hack to saving money is simply taking a look at your subscriptions. The little automated purchases may only be a few dollars a month, but take a minute to think if you actually need them all.
{TEN} Use Libby for your audiobooks.
If you’re a big audiobook fan, you are missing out if you don’t use Libby. This free app links with your library card for free and all of a sudden you can listen to thousands of audiobooks and borrow e-books FOR FREE. A lot of people ask if I use Audible. No, I do not. Because…#9 on this list. #TeamLibby
{ELEVEN} Keep an ongoing list of gift ideas on your phone.
Gift giving is not my strength. I always struggle to find meaningful and thoughtful gifts, especially around Christmastime. I draw a blank around November and scramble to think of gift ideas on a time crunch. I started keeping an ongoing list of Christmas ideas for people on my phone. If someone mentions something or I have an idea, I write it in the note so I won’t forget when the time comes!
{TWELVE} Save your email templates.
I heard this tip a couple of weeks ago and it really is genius. If you find yourself writing the same type of email over and over again, save it as a template, whether through Gmail or in a good ol’ Word doc. It removes some unnecessary brain power to re-write the same thing over and over again and allows you to easily customize the message as needed.
