May Favorites & Books I Read in May

May was one for the books. We officially spilled the beans on Baby Papili, I experienced first trimester ups and downs, and we celebrated a few big milestones with friends and family.

As I write this, it’s officially June and the start of summer. I am so excited to see what this month brings!

Here are a few of my favorites from the month of May (including the two books I read).

{ONE} Baby Announcement

The secret is out! Announcing we are expecting was definitely the highlight of May. I found out in early April so keeping the secret for 11 weeks was tough, but was also so special. We are ecstatic and are so thankful for all the well wishes from friends and family! Baby Papili is already so loved already.

{TWO} Sour Patch Kids

Sour Patch Kids get a shout-out in today’s blog post because I’ve been obsessed with them lately. Like, I can’t get enough and it’s starting to become a problem. They’re so good and I have to physically avert my eyes in grocery store checkout lines so I’m not tempted to buy them every time we go shopping.

{THREE} Bloom Planners’ Pregnancy Planner

The very first thing I purchased when I found out I was pregnant was Bloom Planners’ Pregnancy Planner. It’s a week-by-week pregnancy planner and baby’s first-year diary all in one book. I love it because it includes checklists for preparing for baby, trimester-by-trimester health tips and tricks, and weekly planning sections to keep track of baby stats, cravings, aversions, water drank, etc. What sold me was that it not only helps track a pregnancy, but it also doubles as a baby’s first-year journal where you can write down milestones, keep track of appointments, add pictures, etc. It’ll be fun to look back on one day!

{FOUR} Johnny Depp v. Amber Heard Trial

I was obsessed with this trial, which wrapped up this week (spoiler alert: Johnny Depp won!!). I’ve been a huge fan of Johnny Depp since junior high days when I watched Pirates of the Caribbean and instantly loved Captain Jack Sparrow. While girls my age were obsessed with Justin Bieber and the Jonas Brothers, I was that girl who had posters of Johnny Depp hanging in her room. So, needless to say, I kept up with this defamation trial and it was insane. Like, actually insane. Between the over-the-top stories by Amber Heard on the stand to witnesses answering questions via FaceTime in their cars, this trial was anything but ordinary. But thankfully, the jury saw past Amber’s bad acting, crocodile tears, and terrible lies and sided with Depp (as they should). #JusticeForJohnnyDepp

{FIVE} Spring blooms at home

We (aka Luke) planted some new flowers and plants in our front and back yards this month. I love how our yard comes alive with all of the colorful flowers and plants. Once they’ve grown a bit more, I’ll definitely share some pics.

{SIX} Books I Read in May

I mentioned in last week’s blog post that I’ve been going through a bit of a reading slump and May was especially slow going in the book department because first trimester exhaustion is no joke! I was able to finish two books, though: The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood (2/5 stars) and The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis (5/5 stars). I had read The Screwtape Letters in high school, but I remembered it being really good so I decided to read it again. It remains a favorite!

The Love Hypothesis, though, was surprisingly not great. Bookstagram had been raving about this book so I decided to check it out and had high hopes based on the reviews I’d seen. It was just okay for me. Pretty predictable and an odd premise that I wasn’t a fan of (a college student and teacher romance). If you do end up reading it and don’t enjoy it, just know you’re not alone. You can’t win them all!
