The Season to Be Thankful

I don’t know about you, but Thanksgiving feels like an oxy-moron this year.

It’s a day of thanks and a day to reflect on all that we’re grateful for. But it’s been a tough year mentally, physically, emotionally, and socially. There is a lot of pain, worry, and anxiety in the world today.

Are we supposed to pretend that today doesn’t look completely different from previous years? Are we supposed to pretend that 2020 has been amazing and everything is all great and fantastic?

No, of course not. That would be ridiculous. And unrealistic.

Today of all days, I’m reminded that God doesn’t call us to be thankful only when things are good.

We aren’t supposed to praise God only when everything is going great, when only the sun is shining and everything is rainbows and butterflies.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, “Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” - NIV translation.

Today, I encourage and challenge you to find things you’re thankful for, even in the midst of a crazy year. I talk a lot on here about finding the little joys in life and enjoying the small things. Those things can still be found, even if it takes a bit more effort to identify them.

Today I am thankful. Yesterday I was thankful. Tomorrow I’ll be thankful. Because in all circumstances, there is always something to be thankful for.

Here are 10 things I’m especially thankful for this year:

  1. Luke and I are healthy

  2. We’ve been able to spend more time together

  3. We both have jobs even in the midst of a pandemic

  4. I’m able to work from home

  5. Lucy

  6. We bought our house

  7. The first sip of coffee in the morning

  8. At-home workouts

  9. The library

  10. You, my blog followers 💗

Today, I encourage you to think of at least one thing you’re thankful for. Don’t forget to find the little joys in every day.

Happy Thanksgiving!
