Meet Lucy

This was going to be a very different blog post.

I created a mini blog content calendar for myself at the beginning of the year (hi, I’m Type A) and this week was going to be a different post.

Sometimes, things do not go as planned. They do not go according to the plans we meticulously make, the ideas we think are perfect for us.

Sometimes, plans change. DRASTICALLY.

This week, we joined the movement of quarantined living in the wake of the virus that’s inching its way across the world. It’s a crazy time but in the midst of panic and anxiety, there has also been moments of joy and contentment.

A few weeks ago, I expressed to Luke that I didn’t think we were spending enough quality time together. Our schedules were opposite, him working mostly nights and weekends and me working an 8-5, and the influx of winter and spring activities was growing every day.

Fast forward a few weeks later and we’re quarantined together for at least two weeks. It’s been an odd answer to prayer, but a time of forced rest, quality time, and adjusting to make the best of a situation given to us.

This past Wednesday was my birthday. I had planned to make it a day of favorite things including a trip to Marshall’s, a nail appointment, a coffee run to Starbucks, and a stop at Barnes and Noble. With the quarantine, that plan evaporated and I was left with no open stores, a day off with Luke, and a blank slate.

From the image and this blog post title, I’ll spare you all the details and cut to the chase.

We got a puppy!

We weren’t planning on getting a puppy this week. Or this month. We’ve wanted to get another dog since December when we had to put Thalia down, but it was never something we planned to do this quarter. Maybeee we’d get one this summer, but not during the craziness of spring schedules.

But when all our plans were canceled and Luke told me Tuesday night he saw a local farm was selling shih-poo puppies, it all changed. He showed me a photo of one puppy in particular and I was captivated. Truly, what better time to get a puppy then when we’re home for two weeks to train and bond with it?

It’s almost as if it was meant to be.

The puppy also doubled as a birthday gift and all of a sudden, the birthday of no plans turned into a day of driving to the farm to purchase our little puppy.

Lady Lucy is a shih tzu-mini poodle mix (a shih-poo), the exact breed we agreed on when we talked about “getting a dog someday.” She’s small, fluffy, and laid back. She was the quietest puppy of the 5 sisters we looked at. She also happens to be the one in the picture that gripped my heart.

Luke and I talked about names for the puppy on the drive up to the farm and on the drive back. Who knew it was so hard to choose a name? Lord help us when we go to name our future (human) child.

I played with the puppy for a few hours and couldn’t think of a name that fit her little lady personality.

The name Lucy somehow came to mind and it worked perfectly. I looked it up later and “Lucy” means “light.” She really is a spark of light in the midst of a stressful, confusing time right now.

So, blog fam, meet Lady Lucy of Lancaster (where the farm was located), the newest member of our family and the best little quarantine buddy we could ask for.

Get ready for some puppy content! I hope it’ll bring you at least a fraction of the joy she’s already added to our lives. <3
