A Sneak Peek at Our Guest Room

One of the things I quickly discovered about home ownership is the list of projects never ends.

Seriously, it never ends. Even if a room is “complete,” you can always find something to update, redo, or swap out.

One of the projects that has been on our “someday” list is finishing our guest room. I don’t know why, but I always loved the idea of having a guest room and making it feel so cozy and welcoming for any future guests.

The thing, though, is that the majority of our friends and family live in the same state as us, so we don’t typically get overnight guests very often. So the project kind of fell to the back burner as we focused on other projects, like painting our front door blue and building the pergola.

Recently, we found out we’d be having to use the guest room as an actual guest room and I was so excited. Now granted, it technically could have worked before as a guest room. There was a bed, yes, and a small set of drawers, sure. But it held our extra clothes, random stuff that we hadn’t donated yet, and was frankly, not that welcoming to someone other than us. It was OKAY but it wasn’t “guest room goals” by ANY means.

So this month we tackled “Project Guest Room” and honestly, I’m pretty proud with how it has turned out! We did it on a budget and some little touches makes it feel extra cozy. It’s not crazy or Pinterest-perfect but it was a fun project and our guest loves it!

Like the fantastic DIY blogger that I am (haha psych), I failed to capture BEFORE photos of the room. So just trust me when I say the room included an electric keyboard, the shelves were a mess, the bed had an old bed spread on it, and the throw pillows did NOT match the blanket, let alone go together cohesively. For all intents and purposes, the room served as a storage room with a bed in it before I became Guest Room Fairy Godmother. ;) Here’s the AFTER!

P.S. If you’re curious, I added a few other thoughts in the captions beneath each photo.

I fell in love with the cactus print and loved how it complemented the bedding without being too matchy-matchy.

I opted for no curtains because the space is already pretty small and curtains could make it look smaller. Plus, the sun rises on the opposite side of the house.

I created a little “welcome” basket including towels, wash cloths, the wifi password, and chocolate.

A wide-angle view of the whole room! You can see it’s a tight space so I tried to keep all the furniture light and bright.
