16 Small Things I'm Doing to Stay Healthy
This year has been one long health journey for me.
From learning what my body needs postpartum to being diagnosed with an autoimmune disease to now figuring out what life looks like post-thyroid surgery, I have been on a health rollercoaster in 2023.
I am so thankful that all things considering, my health is fine. However, this year has been a struggle and it has definitely messed with my mental health, as well as the obvious physical health stuff.
A “healthy lifestyle” to me is exactly that: A lifestyle that affects every aspect of health: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. You name it, it’s important to be healthy in that area. This year has brought on its fair share of challenges and has emphasized the importance of keeping daily, seemingly small healthy habits.
Usually a blog post like this would focus on things to do to stay physically healthy, but I want to share more than that. Here are 16 things I’m doing to stay healthy in various areas of my life.
Limiting screen time, especially at night.
Reading physical books.
Incorporating some sort of movement every day (walk, run, weights, HIIT workout — doesn’t matter as long as I move).
Reading my Bible.
Praying.
Eating more protein.
Staying hydrated.
Taking my daily vitamins and medications.
Prioritizing relationships (whether it’s texting/responding quickly, phone calls, quality time, or something similar).
Limiting caffeine (Don’t worry, I still have my morning coffee every day!)
More sleep.
Avoiding drama and gossip.
Noticing the small joys in life.
Writing to-do lists.
Surrounding myself with uplifting people (including social media accounts).
Giving myself grace.
P.S. I stumbled upon this graphic on Instagram today and it hit home. It was a small but impactful reminder to me that “showing up” and being healthy can’t and doesn’t mean I will feel at my best/100% every day. Sometimes, the best I feel is 5%, but if I show up and give it my all, then it’s a win. The little things you do every day make a difference. Each tiny action you take is progress. Even when you don’t feel 100%, show up anyways. I hope you’re encouraged by this graphic as much as I was.
